![]() On this one, I'm going to apply a texture. Then on a new layer, I'm applying a gradient that starts at #985B6D and ends in #747392. The first gradient I'm applying starts with a darker orange ( #D56A50) and moves toward a lighter orange ( #FEAB4C), and change the blend mode of the layer to Soft Light. I have quite a few, but the ones I use most often were made by crumblingwalls. This makes it easier to see what each individual change does to the overall look of the icon, and makes it easier to undo a step or delete something that doesn't look right.įirst, I typically play with gradients. Your Layers window will look like this now:įrom here on out, every step I do will be on a new layer. I leave the settings at the default because it basically sets up a transparent layer. Create a new layer by clicking Layer > New > Layer. Now, I usually start working with blank layers. This step does not work on all icons, so if it ends up not looking right, feel free to bypass this part all together. ![]() Next, click to select the top layer ("Background copy 2") and then go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. I usually do this twice, but some images may require more or less sharpening. Your Layers window should look like this:Ĭlick to select the first "Background copy" layer and then go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. ![]() Now, go to Layer > Duplicate Layer, and do it twice. I didn't insert it in the tutorial as an image because it's actually a little bit large.įirst, find the right way to crop so that you get what you want in your icon. Here is the icon I'm doing the tutorial for: It was written for Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and I honestly have no idea how well it would work for other versions or programs. The tutorial is written in a very basic way, so if you don't know a lot about working with graphics, it should still be pretty accessible. I thought I'd share it in case anyone else is interested in learning how to do some of this stuff. I think Adobe is a decent company and in business there is something called 'good will' and I would hope Adobe would regard us providing that link as a question of a good will gesture. This is a very basic tutorial that I made for my sister, who specifically asked for some tips on making the text into this particular style. I think the reality is the OP once spent $1000 on Photoshop and just because the CD it came on has been lost that is not a reason to deprive them of the software they bought.-it won't run on a modern Mac and has the feature set Photoshop Elements had 8 years ago and lets face it the link to the download has been on many non Warez websites for years now with people never having owned Photoshop downloading.Īdobe should clarify whether we should here recommend CS2 in these circumstances after all if the OP contacted technical support for help they would refer them here for help. I have seen an Adobe list in the past with qualifying products on it and it definitely lists Photoshop CS as a qualifying product so the wording on the web page is not completely accurate, but to be fair Photoshop 7 is not mentioned. As you say the staff here also refers people with ancient versions of Photoshop to the CS2 download. I obviously I tend to agree with you John, otherwise I would not have given out the link. I should say CS2 will only run on a PC or a Mac that doesn't use an Intel processor-so most Mac users cannot benefit from this. When you load it you will probably be offered a link to update the software-you need to load that otherwise the Help menu will not work. CS2 is discontinued and cannot be activated so the version on the following web page is a specially modified version which only accepts the serial code on that web page, so write it down for whichever language you choose. I'd take the risk and download CS2 rather than risk a compromised computer. There is no such thing as a free lunch as they say. ![]() There are a few websites that claim to be giving it away free but equally there are rumors of a virus embedded in the software. Photoshop 7 is not available for download from Adobe-period and probably never has been in its full form. As you are a legitimate owner of Photoshop 7, I am fairly certain you qualify to download Photoshop CS2.
